When we see images of mothers in art history they are often sickly saccharine, portraying tender moments of caring for a child, but a mother’s role is infinitely more complex; there is ecstasy and agony rolled into one. I want to paint the enormity of motherhood and capture how it makes you feel broken and feel immense love. Others are judging your parenting style. You feel resentment because motherhood is relentless and you need some sleep. And you feel so humbled by it all, because you are no longer the most important thing in your own world.
